How to Accept Admission on JAMB CAPS (Step by Step)

A Nigerian teenage girl smiles at her phone on a sofa while her mother leans over her shoulder to look at the screen.

To accept admission on JAMB CAPS, log in to your profile on JAMB's e-Facility portal, open Check Admission Status, choose your exam year, go to Access my CAPS, and click Accept on the offer. After accepting, you can print your JAMB admission letter from the same portal.

It takes a few minutes, but getting it wrong — or forgetting to do it — can cost you the place. Here is the full process, what the statuses mean, and the mistakes worth avoiding.

Why CAPS acceptance matters

CAPS — the Central Admissions Processing System — is where every admission in Nigeria is made official. At the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions, JAMB restated that any admission made outside CAPS is illegal and will not be recognised. A school's list, a departmental notice or a congratulatory text is not your admission. The offer on CAPS, accepted by you, is.

Timing matters too. For the 2026/2027 cycle, candidates were given a four-week window to accept or reject an offer on CAPS. Leave it too long and you risk losing the offer to someone else.

Step by step: accepting your offer

  1. Go to JAMB's e-Facility portal (efacility.jamb.gov.ng) on a phone or computer. Use the official address only.
  2. Log in with the email address and password you used for your JAMB profile.
  3. Click "Check Admission Status".
  4. Select your exam year and your exam type (UTME or Direct Entry), then check the status.
  5. Open "Access my CAPS". This takes you to your CAPS dashboard, where any offer appears with the institution and course.
  6. Read the offer carefully. Check that the institution and the course are what you expect.
  7. Click "Accept" if you want the place, and confirm.
  8. Check again later to make sure the acceptance shows on your dashboard.

If the portal is slow during busy periods, try again at a quieter time, or use another browser. Accredited CBT centres can also help you log in, but never hand your password to an agent who then keeps it.

What the CAPS statuses mean

In September 2026, JAMB published explanations of four CAPS statuses:

  • Not Admitted: your institution has not yet sent your admission details to JAMB, or you have not yet been considered. It does not mean you have been rejected.
  • Admission in Progress: your admission is still being processed and has not been concluded. JAMB described it as an intermediate stage, not a final offer.
  • Proposed for Admission: admission has been proposed for you and is awaiting further processing.
  • Recommended for Admission: JAMB has received your admission details from the institution and is verifying your eligibility. Still not final.

Only once a firm offer appears with the Accept and Reject options can you act. Until then, keep checking. Our guide to checking your admission status explains what to do at each stage.

If you are offered a different course

Schools sometimes offer a candidate a different course from the one they applied for — usually when their score fell short of their first course but suits another. CAPS will show you the course on offer. Accepting it means accepting that course. If you would not genuinely study it, think hard before clicking Accept, and talk it through with someone you trust.

Printing your JAMB admission letter

After you accept, you can print your JAMB admission letter from the JAMB portal. There is a fee, paid on the portal, and the letter is generated against your registration number. Your school will normally ask for it during clearance, alongside its own admission letter, which is a separate document issued by the school.

Keep both a digital copy and a few printed copies. You will be asked for them more than once. If you want the bigger picture of how CAPS fits into the whole process, from UTME to clearance, see our guide to the Nigerian university admission process.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Waiting for the school's list before checking CAPS. The offer can appear on CAPS first.
  • Rejecting by accident. Read the button before you click it. A rejected offer can be given to another candidate.
  • Paying anyone to "upload" or "speed up" your admission. Only your institution and JAMB can move your admission on CAPS.
  • Ignoring the window. Four weeks passes faster than you think during clearance season.

Can I accept admission on CAPS with my phone?

Yes. The e-Facility portal works in a phone browser.

What happens if I don't accept admission on CAPS?

You risk losing the offer, and the place can go to another candidate. Your admission is not complete until you accept.

Is the school's admission letter the same as the JAMB admission letter?

No. The school issues its own letter; the JAMB admission letter is printed from the JAMB portal after you accept on CAPS. You will usually need both.

Once you have accepted, the work changes from getting in to doing well when you get there. If you have a younger sibling or friend preparing for the next UTME, point them to EasyPoint's timed JAMB practice — a free account is all it takes to start.
